Snailshell Short Shifter
In October of 2010, we worked with 4M Industries to develop a limited production run of short shift levers for the snailshell-equipped 924s. These shift levers are CNC-machined from billet aluminum, and based on the original design of long-time 924board.org member "Lizard"...but we took the design improvement one step further.

We felt that the height of the original design was nice for road use, but perhaps a bit short for track use, where you may wish for less distance and motion between the steering wheel and the shift knob. Consequently, we intentionally had the machinist leave the length of the shift lever a bit longer.

The pivot points determine the shorter throws (approximately 50%). The height of the knob (and therefore distance from steering wheel) may be customized by the individual owner by simply trimming the end of the lever.

This is a direct bolt-in replacement for the factory G31 / 016Y/Z shift lever, and uses all of the factory bushings and mounting arrangement. Note, however, that this lever is designed to accommodate aftermarket shift knobs, not the factory knob. We highly recommend the Momo Super Anatomico.

Firewall Brace
Bring the stiffness back to your firewall and make it stronger than new with this firewall brace. The problem is that the firewall sheetmetal is too thin, allowing it to flex every time a hydraulic clutch pedal is depressed. Over time, constant flexing causes cracks that lead to firewall breakage, which can often be accelerated by rust and corrosion.

This plate strengthens the firewall to prevent future breakage, or can be used to repair a firewall that has already cracked or rusted. The firewall brace is made from very strong and rust resistant stainless steel to reinforce weak or failing firewalls. It’s designed to be bolted to the firewall or welded on, depending on how rusted the firewall already is. Bolting the plate requires drilling 7 holes in the firewall for the bolts (hardware included). Then, bolt it on and you are done.

Please note: since the brake and clutch master cylinders need to be removed, bleeding of the system is required. Since this firewall brace is shaped differently than other companies produced, removal of the AC lines is NOT needed. Please let us know if you have any questions.

*Please note that there is no need for a new clutch master cylinder gasket. The supplied aluminum shim will act as a gasket.

Check out the instructions here.
Suitable for all 924, 931, 944, 924S, and 951 with hydraulic clutch, including early 924NA being converted from manual to hydraulic clutch

Audi-based Short Shifter
Simply the best short shifter available for the Audi-based transmissions. This short shift linkage is made with a high strength stainless steel rod and aluminum arms for light weight and durability. Pivoting action is achieved through a high quality, chromoly heim joint with Teflon race and two thrust bearings with special stainless steel washers. Shifting is smooth, exact, and uses 30% less movement than stock to change gears.

Installation is easy, if you can remove the rear wheel then you can install a short shifter. Check out the instructions here.
Suitable for 1980-onward 924 NA; 1981-82 US-spec 931; 1982-onward 944; 1986-88 924S.

Audi-based Shift Lever
This all new shifter with bearings is made with a stainless steel body and ball stud on bottom. Custom made shoulder bolt for excellent fitment, and two thrust bearings with special stainless steel washers. This all equals smooth, “play” free shifting! Find the gear you are looking for the first time.

As your car ages so does the shifter and the shift shaft. Porsche made these to wear out, metal spinning on metal every time you move the shifter. The shifter pin wears out first, then the shift shaft wears out. This creates large amounts of play in the shifter and will make it difficult to engage the gears. Buying a new shifter from Porsche doesn’t solve this problem because the shift shaft is also worn down.

Now there is an easy way to fix this problem. This new shifter comes with thrust bearings that rest on both sides of the shift shaft and tightens down against its sides. It doesn’t matter how worn out the shift shaft is because the bearing press on the sides and hold it firm. The bearings also allows for smooth shifting for many years to come. Check out the instructions here.
Suitable for 1980-onward 924 NA; 1981-82 US-spec 931; 1982-onward 944; 1986-88 924S.

Audi-based Linkage Arm
The shift linkage arm is a part that will lighten up the feel of the shifter and aide in the enjoyment of shifting even more. The OEM linkage has rubber joints that hinder the shifting performance of the Audi-based transaxle. The rubber on the OEM part needs to be compressed every time you move the shifter.

This shift linkage arm has ball joints for easy and much freer movement of the shifter. Not having to compress old rubber each time you shift will make shifting easier. It’s something that you can literally feel when you shift the car. Once installed you will notice the shifter has less resistance when changing gears. This is also a great addition to our short shifter and shift lever above.

Installing all three parts will make your shifting better than it was originally, much smoother, lighter, faster, and more precise. The shift linkage arm will work with both the stock shift linkage or the short shifter, and can be installed at anytime. The shift linkage doesn’t need to be removed from the car to install this part.  Check out instructions here.

Please note that you will need an extremely short 11mm wrench to install the shift linkage arm. A wrench will need to be cut to 1.5 inches long, like in the picture below. If you have an old 11mm wrench then you can cut it, or purchase one from us. This shortened wrench is not required if your transmission is removed from the car.
Suitable for 1980-onward 924 NA; 1981-82 US-spec 931; 1982-onward 944; 1986-88 924S.

CMS Trans Components
California MotorsportsCalifornia Motorsports has specialized in transaxle Porsche gearboxes for more than 30 years. As an exclusive importer of Albins Off Road Gear racing gears, CMS was able to commission the development of the infamous 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear dogteeth that notoriously go bad on the so-called "snailshell" gearboxes. These gears are NLA from Porsche and not available anywhere else.

The 1979 924 normally aspirated cars had a version of this gearbox, also known as the G16, and the 1979-1980 931 had a version known as the G31. The G16
and G31 have different 1st gear dogteeth, both of which are available from Ideola's Garage courtesy of CMS. The same dogteeth gear is used for both 2nd and 3rd gear across both gearboxes. Each dogteeth gear is $225, a 10% discount off of the direct pricing available from CMS!
CMS Snailshell Dogteeth
NOTE: Only available for G31 snailshell (US-Spec S1 931 and all ROW 931). No dogrings available for 016Y/Z snailshell (1979 924 NA).

Exclusive! G16/G31 mid-to-front housing gasket
G16 and G31 rebuild kits are no longer available from Porsche. We are still working on identifying alternative sources for the various radial seals, o-rings, synchros, etc. In the meantime, we have commissioned a high resolution scan and CNC-cut paper gasket for the NLA gasket (477.301.191.A) that goes between the front and mid housing. Exclusive! Delrin Bushings for G16/G31 Universal Coupler
The OEM plastic bushings for the snailshell shift rod universal coupler have slop "built in". While the slop might make the shifter feel a bit smoother at first, the plastic bushings quickly degrade, increasing in sloppiness, and contributing to the notorious synchro and dog ring wear. These solid Delrin bushings eliminate this slop, and make the shifting action must firmer and more precise, almost like a gated feeling.
