2.0L Engine Mods
Integral Profiles Available Now!
In 2010, Integral Cams shut down their operations and sold the rights to their intellectual property to MegaCycle Cams in California. MegaCycle has not been servicing the Porsche community due to lack of familiarity with the various platforms.

At this time, MegaCycle is not producing new Porsche cams from billet. The only available option for now are hardfaced cams on customer-supplied cores.

Hardfaced cams are produced by welding additional material onto the existing stock cam, regrinding to the specified profile, and then heat-treating the camshaft for durability. This process has two distinct advantages:
  • Improved wear characteristics when compared to OEM cams or billet ground cams
  • Unlike offerings from Elgin, WebCam, EMW, and others, this process maintains the OEM cam circle and eliminates the need for lash caps to maintain valve adjustments.

Definitions
  • Improved Stock: modern design with better valve control, slight warmup over stock profile
  • Stage 1: "hot street" cam, no low end loss with modest gains in mid-through-high RPM
  • Stage 2: for use with free flow exhaust
  • Stage 3: ideal for club race events
  • Stage 4: race only
Hardfaced Cam (select profile)
Allow 2 weeks for processing, not including shipment times. Requires customer-provided OEM camshaft. Contact us if you need help locating a camshaft core. Shipping instructions will be provided upon receipt of order.

EMW Big Valve Kit
Suitable for all 1977-1984 2.0L 924/931. Allow 1-2 weeks sourcing and packaging of the kit components.
$445
For a more economical alternative, you may wish to reuse your stock valve spring set. Suitable only for stock or Stage1 cams. High lift cams require the heavy duty springs included above.
$365
We recommend that the valves be ordered uncut, and a little longer than stock so that your machinist can match them specifically to your cam and lifter setup. If desired, the valves may be ordered in OEM-spec lengths:
  • NA = 137.2mm intake, 136.95mm exhaust
  • 931 = 133.2mm intake, 133.35mm exhaust

Ishihara-Johnson Crank Scrapers & Windage Trays
Ishihara-Johnson Crank ScrapersIshihara-Johnson offer crank scrapers and windage tray setups for all Porsche 924 & 931 2.0L engines. Available with steel or teflon scrapers, we can confirm that the standard scrank scraper also works out-of-the-box with our special stroker combination using Crower Rods and stroker crank (note that other stroker setups might require custom trimming of the scraper blades).

Also available for 924S/944/951/968!

Benefits
  • Less rotating mass for the engine to accelerate because of the removed oil
  • Less loss of power because of excessive drag caused by the windage cloud
  • Reduces engine-damaging oil foaming
  • Minimizes oil starvation by keeping the oil in the pan during hard braking
  • Improves cooling of critical engine parts by quickly returning heated oil to the sump
  • Prevents the cylinder walls from being overloaded with oil
  • Can improve fuel efficiency

Crower Rods
In 2007 we worked directly with Crower to develop a replacement rod for the Porsche 924 2.0L platform. These rods are identical to OEM rods in all critical dimensions (big end specs, little end specs, and length), but were especially designed with a lower profile shoulder and bolting arrangement. As a consequence, these rods may be used as a direct fit replacement for OEM applications, but can also be used in conjunction with a stroker crank without requiring any material removal on the block.

Benefits
  • about 40% lighter than stock rods
  • reusable hardware
  • integral little end bushes (OEM bushes are NLA!)
  • beefier I-beam construction
  • low profile shoulders and bolts
Specifications
  • Rotating Weight: 447
  • Reciprocating Weight: 173
  • Total Weight: 620
  • Center-to-Center: 5.669
  • Big End Diameter: 2.0316
  • Big End Thickness: 1.100
  • Pin End Diameter: 0.9447
  • Pin End Thickness: 1.100
  • Rod Material: Steel
  • Lube: 90898
  • Stretch: .004-.006
  • Torque: 45 lbs.

Diamond Pistons
We can now source a variety of piston configurations through Diamond Racing, including US-spec and Euro-spec configurations for normally aspirated applications, and US-spec 931 applications. Options include:
  • custom compression ratio
  • custom dish volume
  • OEM spec bores of 86.5mm, 86.75mm, 87mm, or custom bores up to the block's maximum (approx. 88mm)
  • valve reliefs
  • offset pin height for strokers
  • custom coatings (ceramic tops, teflon skirts)
Diamond pistons are forged from 2618 or 4032 aluminum and CNC machined. All piston sets include wrist pins, retainers and rings. The inclusion of rings in the price makes these an attractive option, as oversize ring sets for OEM pistons are nearly half the cost of a completely new set of Diamond pistons!

How to Order
These pistons are not off-the-shelf items for Diamond. Consequently, orders require some detailed information in order to properly specify the critical dimensions. Diamond has provided us with a tool to assist in calculating the specifications, so please contact us for more information.
Directional Pricing, Complete Set
$695 per set of 4
Available for all 1977-1984 2.0L 924/931. Price per set, including wrist pins, spirolox retainer, and complete ring set. NOTE: these are custom manufactured parts. Please allow 6-8 weeks for manufacturing and delivery.

Price may vary with options.

Special Coatings

Performance Exhaust Systems
Designed specifically for freeing up the exhaust on the normally aspirated 924, we can provide three options for exhaust headers from Stahl, Bursch and MSDS. We can also provide the Bursch complete exhaust package at prices significantly below MSRP.

A Word About Coatings

Based on several reports from the field, we strongly discourage the use of header wraps, as they trap heat and moisture and will lead to premature failure of any of these headers. For racing applications, we strongly recommend ceramic coating both inside and outside the header. MSDS provides this as a service (see pricing above). Altnerative, we have several local sources who can provide ceramic coating services, so please inquire if you need assistance in this area.

Stroker Crankshaft
These stroker cranks are produced for us by a couple of Detroit area crankshaft specialists. The process used is to weld additional material onto the rod journals, and then to offset grind the journal, adding .25" (~6.35mm) to the stroke for a total of 90.75mm. When coupled with oversize pistons between 87-88mm bore, the result is a 10% gain in displacement (2.2L).

The advantage of this approach is that OEM rods and bearings may be used, although OEM rods will require the bottom of the cylinder walls to be ground for clearance of the rod shoulders. The Crower rods make a nice addition to the stroker package since they are lighter, stronger, and smaller at the shoulder, but identical to OEM rods in all other critical dimensions. Stroker cranks REQUIRE pistons with offset wrist pins.

How to Order
These stroker cranks REQUIRE a core crank to be sent in The core must be examined by the craftsman before pricing can be established. To arrange for crank development, please contact us.
